Talent International, is calling for more social change managers and charitable entrepreneurs to step up and promote their unique initiatives through the Talent Unleashed Awards this year.
Our Founder and Managing Director, Richard Earl, has said that digital media and new technologies are not only changing the way people work, but the way people activate social change; and the need for them to be recognised is greater than ever.
“In recent years we’ve seen attitudes to social-change develop from just giving to getting involved. While charitable giving is rising, research shows that online activity has more than doubled in this space. We need more outlets for people to find and use to make a difference. There is no better time for the NFP sector to capitalise on this altruistic trend in the technology sector and step up and get the backing they deserve” he said.
The Talent Unleashed Awards were developed to reward and recognise exceptional technology talent across the APAC region and draw attention to the achievements in the industry with a view to increase awareness and support for positive change-makers; including those in social change organisations.
As such, we’re pleased to announce social change champion and Co-Founder of Comic Relief; Jane Tewson will join the panel of judges for the 2014 Talent Unleashed Awards.
“New and emerging technological applications excite me hugely for developing creative and innovative ways to help inspire change. By creating new, intelligent platforms I believe people will not only connect more, but very importantly understand each other better” said Tewson.
Tewson is the Founder and Director of Igniting Change a purposely tiny organisation that brings people and resources together in extraordinary ways to spark big, positive change for people doing it really tough.
Earl said that Tewson was an obvious choice for the panel given her ability to implement social change and challenge fatigued views of charity and giving.
“We are delighted to have Jane join us on the judging panel. Jane’s passion and insight into transforming communities is exactly what is needed to judge the awards and in particular the Community Impact Award” said Earl.
Earl also mentioned the noticeable increase in on-line organising apps and digital platforms that encourage volunteering, community communication or donating goods and skills.
“There are some great apps that have the power to better our lives, such as Safehood which lets users keep an eye on their neighbourhood with other locals, GoChipIn for willing volunteers to find events and vice versa and ShoppingGoodGuide showing consumers how their decisions might affect the rest of the world. It’s these types of empowering ideas we are looking to recognise through Unleashed.”
